I always try to "think green" when it comes to real estate and our Sanibel paradise. I just attained the National Association of Realtors "Green Designation" as I wanted to learn as much as I could concerning the latest ways to build, retrofit and landscape on Sanibel My goal is to pass this knowledge on to Sanibel residents and future residents so you can make the best decisions relating to living "Green" in our island homes.
Just about everybody agrees that "Going Green" is a great idea, but the information you need is vast and spread out, making it hard to find the best information as it relates to your area and particular situation. Some want to build their new home as energy efficient as possible, but most want to retrofit their current home to fit a greener lifestyle and save money on their utilities. Others who are planning to sell their home realize that "Greening" makes a home more salable in today's competitive real estate market.

There is also an interesting article in USA Today (online) that talks about Green pre-fab housing. Although Sanibel creates more challenges to building (Piling homes, hurricane codes) this article still increases your knowledge base of things to do to help build or retrofit Green.
