Five Quick Tips for Selling your Home – The Outside

There is no doubt that first impressions are very important when trying to sell your home. Some folks will drive past a house they thought they were interested in, but when the prospective buyers see the front they are turned off.  Frequently, these negative first impressions can be softened or eliminated with a few inexpensive and quick ideas.

First, prune the outside vegetation – particularly the driveway and walkways leading to the house.

This creates an invitation for buyers to come onto the property. This is also a good idea whether you are selling, or if you are just still living there yourself.  It is safer for you, and it keeps bugs and critters away from the house.

Second, put a fresh coat of paint on the front door(s) and trim any vegetation around the door.

A gallon of paint is a small investment to improve your home, and it shows you have maintained your property.

Third, clean up the yard and remove any lawn implements or children’s toys.  

You don’t want anything on the property to distract prospective buyers. You want buyers to envision themselves in the property and it is difficult when there are possessions from the current owner around the property.

Fourth, add a bit of color.

It is always great when there are flowers or plants that is blooming to add a dash of color to the front of a property.  Folks like to see  color in and around their Island property.  Flowers help remind them that they are no longer in a winter climate! Orchids work well as their blossoms last quite a while

Fifth, Maintain it!

This is the hard part.  Making the initial push to clean up and freshen up the property is easier the first time.  Unfortunately, homes go on the market and often don’t sell right away.  It is important that the impression the 10th prospective buyer gets is very similar to the first.  You want them to feel "Wow!"
