The talk on TV and on the web is still all about the oil spill off the New Orleans coast, and rightly so. Our hearts go out to those affected by this spill and we are hoping for a cure to this horrible situation. Even though they are expecting oil on some beaches in the Florida Panhandle, we are hundreds of miles away and our sand and waters are absolutely oil free. Our beaches are loaded with sand, shells and wildlife.

Real estate in the area is still moving and there are some incredible deals on the market. I believe this is a great time to check out the area and think about buying.  If you can tell me what your dream house or condo would look like, I can put your parameters into the MLS system and you will be automatically notified of any listings that fit your dream. For a quick update on our current market.

Sanibel Island:

For the month of May 2010, Sanibel had 15 residential home sales with an average selling price of $982,600.

In the same time period Sanibel had 19 condo sales with an average selling price of $600,816. This is a big increase over condo sales from a year ago - May of 2009 – when we only had 7 Sanibel condo sales.

 

For Captiva Island:

For the month of May, the Captiva market was fairly slow with 1 residential home sold as opposed to 5 for this time period last year.

For condos, Captiva had 2 sales with an average selling price of $501,250.

These statistics are for closed sales only and not properties under contract.
